Home Run Bet: Aaron Judge (Yankees)
- Game: Yankees vs. Astros
- Dimers Probability: 23.6%
- DraftKings Odds: +225
We start off with the AL MVP favorite, back from his brief injury stint and the Yankees sorely need Aaron Judge to start doing what he does once again.
Judge is the best hitter in baseball and he's without a home run in his first two games back but a player of his caliber is always due.
He's the top HR hitter by probability today at 23.6% according to DimersBOT and while we're not getting his fair odds of +320, these odds of +225 are better than you're usually getting on Judge.
That's partly due to his matchup against the Astros' Hunter Brown who has allowed just 12 home runs in 131 IP this season. He's not invincible though - he had a pre-All Star Break stretch where he gave up at least on in five of six games.
What does line up well is that Brown primarily throws a 4-seam fastball and the sinker - only seeing a SLG below .550 against the curveball, Browns' third pitch.
Home Run Bet: Shohei Ohtani (Dodgers)
- Game: Dodgers vs. Blue Jays
- Dimers Probability: 22.9%
- DraftKings Odds: +145
We have to preface this next one with a disclaimer - these odds stink. They're well off our fair price which should be closer to +330 and we would not recommend this as a value play.
But - we're not looking for value here. Just taking a shot on the top sluggers of the night and Shohei Ohtani always fits that bill.
With 39 home runs, Ohtani ranks third overall and second in the NL behind only Kyle Scwharber.
Ohtani recently snapped his longest streak (9 games) without a HR since June and now will look to stay hot in August by teeing one off Max Scherzer tonight.
Scherzer has pitched just 41 innings this season after early injury issues but has allowed 9 HR. He has just two starts without a HR allowed and has given up at least one in four straight games, including a pair of them in two.
He's given up twice as many HR vs. lefties in almost the same innings split, giving Ohtani a major advantage, as he also crushes all three of Scherzer's top pitches.
Home Run Bet: Kyle Schwarber (Phillies)
- Game: Phillies vs. Rangers
- Dimers Probability: 22.4%
- DraftKings Odds: +210
Finally, we're looking at our third-most likely HR hitter tonight and the last one with a probability of 22% or higher, Kyle Schwarber.
This man has a legitimate MVP case and ranks as such behind only the man above.
Schwarber has 40 bombs on the season and could set a career high (currently 47). He's mashing with a career-best SLG (.565) and OPS .965) and is coming off his best month of the season with 12 HR in July and 3 already in August.
He's up against the Rangers' trade deadline acquisition, Merrill Kelly, who has been pretty good this year, allowing 14 HR in 134.1 innings and boasting a mid-tier Barrel % at the 47th percentile. But, he's weaker in one notable area - vs. lefties.
10 of those 14 HR have come against lefthanded batters and Schwarber is a nightmare for Kelly's pitch mix.
