The Pittsburgh Penguins return home tonight to face the Detroit Red Wings.
The Pens are on a back to back as they suffered a 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders last night, on Long Island. This is the first game post break for Detroit which should give the Penguins an advantage tonight, who have now lost 3 of their last 4 games.
At home this season, Pittsburgh is averaging 3.5 goals per game and their Power Play is 12th at 25%. The Pens have scored 4 plus goals in 7 of their 13 home games this season.
The Red Wings are allowing 3.5 goals per game on the road this season and their Penalty Kill is 13th worst at 76%. Detroit has allowed 4 plus goals in 8 of their 15 road games this season.
This is the first meeting of the season between these teams but last season the Pens absolutely blitzed the Red Wings. Deriot won the first meeting by a 3-2 score in a shootout but the Pens responded with wins of 11-2 and 7-2 in the latter part of the season.
I am not saying that Pittsburgh will score as many goals as they did in those contests, but I do think they will put up at least 4 goals here in a bounceback spot.
The Penguins were embarrassed by the Islanders last night. Look for Crosby and company to score early and often against the Wings, who will not be as sharp as the Penguins tonight.
