NHL Best Bets: Devils vs. Sabres
PICK: New Jersey Devils Team Total Over 4 (+112)
The New Jersey Devils look to clinch their first playoff spot in five years as they visit the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Arena tonight.
New Jersey sits in second place in the Metropolitan Division and are two points behind the Carolina Hurricanes for first.
New Jersey has lost four of their last five games so they are going to want to right the ship tonight. Luckily they get a Buffalo Sabres team that looks to have mailed it in.
The Sabres, though not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, are eight points behind Pittsburgh for the final Wild Card spot and they would have to leapfrog four teams to get into a spot.
Judging by their recent play, it seems like they have given up on that option. Buffalo has lost 10 of their last 12 games and they have allowed 60 goals during that span, including back to back games of seven goals against.
The Sabres are a very talented offensive team but their goaltending needs a makeover as the combination of Craig Anderson, Ukko-Pekka Luukonen and Eric Comrie have not been nearly good enough for this team to be a serious contender.
Although they have struggled to score recently, the Devils are averaging 3.8 goals per game on the road this season, which is a nice bump compared to their 3.1 average at home.
New Jersey added goal scorer Timo Meier at the deadline and he has added depth to this forward group.
Timo only has two goals and four assists in his 10 games with the Devils, but just his presence opens things up for others.
I like the matchup for the Devils offense to breakout tonight. Instead of laying -135 or higher on their 3.5 team total, I'll bump this up to four, at plus money and risk a push.
So bet New Jersey Devils Team Total Over 4 (+112) at BetMGM.
