The suddenly surging defending Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche visit the slumping Vancouver Canucks tonight at Rogers Arena.
The Avs are off a huge 4-1 win at Calgary on Wednesday night, which put them two points behind Calgary for the final Wild Card spot in the West.
The Avs have won three games in a row and have outscored the opposition 17-4 in that span as the recent return of Big Val Nichushkin has helped this forward group.
The Avs got more injury news before that game as Cale Makar was sidelined with an undisclosed injury. The Star defenseman's status is uncertain for tonight but whether he plays or not, I like the Avs to keep rolling.
Surprisingly, Colorado is 0-2 against the Canucks this season. Most Recently, the Avs blew a 2-0 lead in a 4-2 defeat on January 5th.
Vancouver also defeated the Avs on November 23 by a 4-3 count, in Colorado. Vancouver Coach Bruce Boudreau is rumored to be fired any day now as the Canucks are in talks with Rick Tocchet to become their new coach.
Vancouver has the league's worst Penalty Kill, at 67%. Despite all the injuries the Avs have had this season, their Power Play is 12th best in the league and has a perfect opportunity to light the lamp tonight.
The Champs are getting ready to go on a run as evidenced by their last three games.
