Devils vs. Penguins Best Bets

PICK: New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins Over 6 (-120)

It's a Metropolitan Division battle between two struggling teams as the New Jersey Devils visit the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight at PPG Paints arena.

It's been a tale of two seasons for New Jersey as they got off to a 21-4-1 start and averaged 3.7 goals during that span while allowing only 2.1 goals per game.

December has been a tumultuous month for the young Devils however. Since December 9th, they are 1-7-1 and are averaging 2.2 goals per game and allowing 3.7 goals per game.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have also been inconsistent this season. After starting December with 7 straight wins, the Pens have now lost 4 of their last 5 and are coming off another embarrassing loss as they blew a 4-0 first period lead in a 5-4 Overtime home loss to the Red Wings on Wednesday night.

Both of these teams could be preaching defense tonight but I still think we will see goals in this one. This is their first meeting of the season but over the last 10 meetings between these two clubs, the Over 6 is 4-2-4 with 3 of the 4 meetings last season hitting at least 6 goals.

At home this season, where the Over is 9-8, the Penguins are averaging 3.5 goals per game and allowing 2.7. On the road this season, where Overs are 6-8, the Devils are averaging 3.8 goals per game and allowing 2.4 goals per game.

I am expecting a slower start to this game but things should get going as the game moves along.

We may need an empty netter for a win or a push but regardless, I'll give the Over 6 a look tonight, so bet Devils at Penguins Over 6 (-120)
