The rested New York Rangers host the Florida Panthers tonight at Madison Square Garden.
New York is coming off a 3-1 home loss to the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. The Rangers are only averaging 2.7 goals per game at home but they find themselves in a night matchup against Florida.
The Panthers are allowing 3.6 goals per game on the road this season, which is 6th most in the league. Added to that, they have injuries in goal as Sergei Bobrovsky is out with a lower body injury and Spencer Knight was just activated from the IR.
Alex Lyon is the likely starter tonight, who played well in Saturday’s 5-3 win vs Minnesota. The Rangers have scored at least 4 goals in 7 of the last 9 meetings with Florida, including 5 in a win at Florida on New Year’s Day.
Florida has allowed at least 4 goals in 16 of their 27 road games. With Halak listed as the likely starter, instead of going with the moneyline, I’ll back the Rangers to get their offense going at home and take their team total over.
