The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers kick off the 2nd half of the NHL season in an Atlantic Division clash tonight in Sunrise.
The Bolts are 3rd in the Atlantic, with 65 points and seem destined for another 1st round matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Panthers have had a disappointing season thus far. Florida has 57 points on the season, 3 points out of a playoff spot in the East.
I am going to be looking at overs as teams come out of the All-Star break/bye weeks. The lack of practice time hurts teams defensively the most.
Although the series history trends under as each of the last 6 meetings have stayed under the total, I think we buck that trend tonight.
I’m expecting Florida to push the pace here as they just don’t have the goaltending to shut this Tampa offense down. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jon Cooper gives Brian Elliot the start on goal tonight, as Andrei Vasilevskiy participated in all star weekend.
That would make this over an even better look. I try to stay away from totals of 6.5, but I think we see plenty of goals tonight.
I’m also going to look at Nikita Kucherov to eclipse his shot on goal prop tonight. Kuch has hit this Mark in 5 of his last 7 Vs Florida, including both meetings this season.
The Panthers are allowing 33 shots/game at home this season, which is the 6th most in the league. I’ll take Kucherov to go over 3.5 SOG, at plus money, so bet Lightning at Panthers Over 6.5 (-120) and Nikita Kucherov Over 3.5 SOG (+108) with BetMGM today.
