First Four Picks Tuesday March 15, 2022

As the honorary starting point for March Madness, we need to kick things off with a First Four Preview for all of you degenerates to get in some early action.

And, while I’ll be betting on the games, I’m not happy about doing it. Why? Well, I might sound like a curmudgeon, but I absolutely hate the idea of a “First Four” where teams are sort of playing to make the tournament but are also sort of already in. 64 teams is a perfectly sized bracket, and our insistence on getting greedy and adding teams because we just have to fit a few extra half-assed at large programs in feels stupid to me, but they don’t give me the power to make any decisions (for good reason) so here we are.

Now that I’ve gotten that entirely unnecessary and grumpy speech off my chest, let’s talk ball.

Texas A&M CC vs. Texas Southern, 7:30PM ET

The first thing I’ll say, to be completely honest, is that predicting the 16 vs 16 games is an absolute nightmare.

That’s not an excuse for me if things go wrong, more of a warning that you should bet these games VERY CAUTIOUSLY because it’s hard to know just how well either of these teams will play.

With that, I’m going ahead and taking Texas… A&M CC with the points. Despite Texas Southern’s win over Florida and having the best player on the floor in John Walker III, this team is 319th in the country in free throw percentage at 67.1% and hitting your shots from the line is crucial come March (CC is 64th in the country at over 75%).

Not a whole lot else to say here other than “do a lot of praying because there’s not much else to go off of.” Let’s go Islanders.

BET: Texas A&M CC +3.5 (-110)

Indiana vs. Wyoming 9:10PM ET

You’re going to hear a lot about the rise and strength of the Mountain West this year but, to be honest, I just don’t fucking buy it.

CSU is legitimately good, but the other three teams who made the Dance are probably over ranked and I don’t see them having much success. In line with that, we’re betting the Hoosiers here.

Indiana found two wins in the Big Ten Tournament before getting their hearts broken on a banked 3 against Iowa, and they’re better than Wyoming at their best.

In a one game playoff with a team who’s been weathered by Big 10 competition all season, I’ll take IU to handle this game comfortably.

BET: IU -4 (-110)

DimersBOT probability: 44%
