Today’s Optimal Mojo Fantasy Lineup – Thursday, September 21
We’re looking at Mojo’s $10 NFL Thursday Throwdown contest, but don’t forget they have free-to-play contests as well!
For this lineup, we’re going to play Mojo’s Double-Up contest. A super common format on DFS platforms, contestants who play Double Up have the objective of finishing in the top half of the contest. If your portfolio finishes in the top 50%, you double your buy-in. It’s that simple.
NFL Thursday Throwdown | Buy-in: $10 | Potential Payout: $20
Starting Portfolio value: $500
Stock 1 – Christian McCaffery Over 82.5 Rushing Yards
Our model likes this bet based on McCaffery's 79.5 yards line on other books, but that's okay because our model also projects CMC to smash his prop with 93 rushing yards against a NY Giants defense allowing the seventh-most rushing yards through two games.
Mojo has set the price for CMC's Over at $0.48 which means a 48% probability of hitting, showing us some serious value given the fact that our model projects Hockenson with a 60.9% chance to go over. Plus, with Brandon Aiyuk questionable, Deebo Samuel may see more of a traditional WR role, leaving CMC to run rampant.
Investment: $100 to return $208.94
Stock 2 – George Kittle Over 44.5 Receiving Yards
Kittle hasn't hit this number in either of his first two games, but he's shown his signature ability to get chunk yardage with receptions of double-digit yards in each. Our model loves the value here, with Kittle getting a 64.8% chance to clear this mark, while Mojo has priced him at $0.51 for his stock, meaning we have about 14% of value in his stock price.
Our model projects him for his best game yet, tallying 56 yards through the air. Similar to CMC's rushing volume, Kittle is a lock to see additional targets if Brandon Aiyuk sits out tonight.
Investment: $100 to return $197.55
Stock 3 – George Kittle First TD Scorer
Let's stick with Kittle for a big one that could be all we need to cash our Double Up entry. Two games is a small sample size, so if we take a peek at last year's stats, Kittle ranked fourth among tight ends in red zone targets and was first overall at the position with 11 endzone targets. Safe to say, if the 49ers are inside their opponent's 20-yard line, Kittle is likely to get his looks as a big-bodied tight end who can dominate at the point of contention.
Our model is right in line with Mojo's price for Kittle which is set at $0.09 while we give him a 9.1% probability. Kittle also gets a significant 37% probability of an anytime TD, and since we expect the 49ers to move up the field at will, we like rolling the dice on him to strike first.
Investment: $100 to return $1070.66
Stock 4 – Deebo Samuel Over 55.5 Receiving Yards
We are really anchoring this lineup around Aiyuk's potential absence or limited role, so adjust accordingly if you feel differently, but all of the projections and probabilities used are based on that he *is* playing, so the data still applies if he starts.
Mojo has priced Deebo's Over in his receiving stock at $0.51, meaning just a hair over a 50% probability. Meanwhile, our model projects Deebo to clear this mark with 59 yards (and room to grow if Aiyuk sits), plus DimersBOT is fading his rushing yards prop, implying he's expected to see more work as a true receiver.
Investment: $100 to return $194.55
Stock 5 – Brock Purdy Under 234.5 Passing Yards
Why fade Purdy as a passer if we're already backing players in his offense to pick up yards? A few reasons. For starters, we're betting on value. Mojo has priced Purdy at $0.57 to go under this number while our model projects him for 229 passing yards with a 58.2% chance to go under his passing attempts prop and a 63.1% chance to go under his completions prop.
All three of the props set for Purdy would be his highest marks of the season. In a blowout win over the Steelers, Purdy notched 220 yards on 19 completions. In a slightly competitive game against the Rams, he registered 206 yards on 17 completions. Our model expects this game to fall somewhere in the middle of those as far as competitiveness and we don't think Kyle Shanahan is going to try and fix what isn't broken.
Investment: $100 to return $174.61
Total Investment: $500
Potential Portfolio Return: $1,846.31
