Gambling Twitter For Dummies

Welcome, traveler! If you’ve found your way to this article and to Gambling Twitter, it means you’ve permeated the barrier into the strange underworld where social media and sports gambling intersect into a chaotic, beautiful, and frightening mess. And, if this is all fairly new to you, the task of figuring out where you should go, and how to work your way through all of that content, is probably pretty daunting. That’s where I come in.
Think of me as your tour guide. Not a good one, like some old lady working at the Louvre who’s been there for 50 years and knows every picture by heart - more like a local taking you through the amazon who sort of knows where he’s going but is also still liable to end up dead. Even if you’re not completely green to Gambling Twitter, it still takes a lot of time to learn the ropes and get smart on what rules to follow and the appropriate etiquette (I wouldn’t say we’re high society, but there’s a basic code of decency) so hopefully this can still be of use.
Without further ado, in traditional bullet point fashion, here’s an article that should help you learn what the fuck is going on in this sphere us gamblers call home and some general information on how to get the best out of Gambling Twitter if you’re going to waste your time here.

Part 1: Getting Situated
Information F*cking Everywhere
Starting something new is daunting. Even if you’re a seasoned gambler, learning what the fuck is going on in Gambling Twitter and seeing all of the new jargon can be overwhelming and that’s a completely normal response. But don’t give up! Some of the best things in life are extremely difficult (like, you know, gambling) and there is so much you can get out of this place. Intelligent people, data, links, and all sorts of other tools are at your fingertips if you just take the time to learn the layout. Think of it like your first time visiting a new city; get a couple days under your belt and things will be fine, but try to avoid ending up in the wrong dark alley.
Find the Big Names
The people and companies with lots of followers have those followers for a reason. I’ll obviously take this moment to advocate for following Dimers and myself (though, if you’re already here, that box is probably already checked), but I’d recommend following all of the important accounts. Not only are most of these “big names” both smart and good people, each will teach you about some of the important uses of Gambling Twitter so you can get the most out of it. From Dimers to Jerry to JD to LCap, everyone gives you something useful and you should get acquainted with all of them (though maybe not too acquainted with Jerry, he’s just the less funny version of me).
Learn What You’re Looking For
Once you see EVERYTHING this place has to offer, it’s time to figure out what exactly you want. There is, quite honestly, way too much going on for you to be involved in all of it, and nobody has enough hours in their day for that shit. But you’ll find pretty quickly that you gravitate towards certain groups or handicappers or companies. Myself and Dimers provide a wide range of content for free that I think is pretty good, but paid Discord channels and podcasts and other content all exist and are great ways to become part of the community and improve your gambling. Decide where your time is best spent, and you’ll get the most out of this place.

Part 2: How to Use Gambling Twitter
Be a Decent Human Being
This is probably the only legitimate and intelligent piece of life advice I can give (I’m not someone to aspire to, admittedly). There are so many people on Gambling Twitter giving their time and brainpower and sharing their gambling knowledge, so DO NOT BE A DICK. If you don’t like someone, ignore them; as I said, there is literally too much information on Gambling Twitter and everyone is better off without the middle school spats. It will happen every once and a while and it usually isn’t pretty (especially when bigger names are involved), but let’s try to keep this a friendly place.
Be Happy for Other People
This one is self explanatory and dovetails nicely with the last point. It’s sort of a natural response to be jealous when other people hit it big, especially because we all want those winners. But guess what? It doesn’t hurt you one fucking bit. Once you stop worrying about other people winning, you’ll have a lot more time to spend worrying about what really matters - your own gambling. Always remember, you’re trying to beat the book, not the other gamblers.
Engage
This is where you start to dive deeper into the fiber of Gambling Twitter, and it’s not for everybody. I’d actually say a majority of people just watch silently and soak up information, which is totally fine. But, if you’re so inclined, start commenting or even asking questions. I LOVE hearing from gamblers and walking through my thought process on bets. If I didn’t, I would just go off and gamble without the social media aspect. Most of the people on Gambling Twitter are here to bounce ideas or talk about sports because it’s something we love doing, so ask about reasoning that confuses you or drop a DM to discuss strategy.
Become a Better Gambler
If you spend enough time in this space, you simply will have no choice but to get better at gambling. Hell, I’ve been doing this for a long time and I still look for new information or different ideas every damn day. One of the only immutable facts about betting on sports is that you can always learn more and get better. With all of these smart people and tools at your fingertips, you’ll be shocked at how much you can improve (or add weapons to your gambling arsenal) in a short amount of time.
Slow Friday for me, so let's do something different...

Share something weird that you do when gambling/watching sports that confuses other people.
Mine: I typically watch games on mute so I can focus on what's happening better (like a god damn psycho)
Part 3: How to Improve Gambling Twitter
Find New Angles
You’re not going to reinvent the wheel as far as gambling is concerned, but every person has a different way of analyzing information and using it to bet. If this was as simple as crunching numbers, everyone would be good, and that’s clearly not the case. The best gamblers use information and their own intuition to win at a profitable rate (which also means you have to use your gut, it’s not a bad thing), then take that skill to the tweeter to share it if they’re so inclined. You may be content to simply tail other people, but don’t be afraid to take the next step and try to be even better than the people you’re following. God knows none of us are perfect (or even close to it).
SHARE!
Everyone starts somewhere, and there’s no easy or right way to become a part of the community. Hell, I was a writer who was trying not to be a “sharp” before Dimers asked me to make a twitter, and now I’m out here giving picks on a daily basis (life comes at you fast…). If you want to start on the path towards growing a following, just do it (Nike stole the line from me). Follow people, give out picks, start collaborating with others. If people enjoy your work, or you win a lot, things will grow. It may take a while, but there’s never a “right time” to do it.
Claim Your Corner
Last but not least, find what works for you. One theme for Gambling Twitter, and gambling in general, is you can’t do everything. If you spread yourself too thin, quality will suffer, which applies to both making money and growing a following. I’ve found my niche with a hybrid of humor and gambling, and by focusing on certain sports I feel confident in. You don’t need to gamble on every sport or every game (it’s certainly a bad idea, actually), and figuring out what you do best and like most is the key to succeeding around these parts. Just don’t try to become a cartoon prospector who spends his days betting mid tier European soccer - That space has already been claimed and I will defend it vigorously.
