Look Covid, we get that you’re desperately trying to hang onto your 5 minutes of fame, but it’s time to move on with your life. The Premier League season is a 9 month grind that picks up speed in the holiday period so that all of us soccer fans have an extra excuse to sit our asses in front of the TV and drink at 9 AM, and you’re seriously curbing our ability to do that right now with your incessant need to cancel fixtures and infect whole teams of players.
Even worse, you decided to personally single out my beloved Hotspurs and force them into weeks of shutdown which is likely going to ripple through their season and cause them to miss out on important qualifications for next year (that’s my story come May, and I’m sticking to it). So hey, why don’t you give it a break after 2 years of attention hogging and turn the spotlight in another direction. I haven’t heard a damn about the flu in forever or even seen a wave of strep throat pass through a school system in ages.
I think we can all agree that it’s time to focus on something else for once, and I’m sure you can find a new hobby that doesn’t include infecting millions and causing widespread death. Now that I’ve laid the gauntlet down with some half assed shaming of a plague that’s caused widespread disaster across the world (what, you don’t think that will work?), time to focus on gambling again.

Chelsea vs. Wolves, Sun Dec 19, 9:00am (ET)
Well, I had other picks written up but the Pem canceled them so we’re down to just two left. Take what you can get, I suppose. I’m going to keep things simple and go with Chelsea to win, since Wolves can barely score to begin with and the Londoners have one of the better defenses in Europe. While Chelsea are dealing with their own Covid issues themselves, they have enough talent and a deep enough roster to weather that storm because more money means more players and they’ve got that shit by the bucketload. Wolves did well in the midweek to hang on for a win over Brighton, but this team doesn’t have the talent to run with teams in the upper half and they know their focus is really to pick up points in matches where the disparity isn’t quite so large. Against the reigning European Champions (god I hate having to say that), I think Wolves will be content to lose “not so badly” and I expect Chelsea handle this match against a team they should comfortably beat. Don’t think too much here, just go with the safe bankroll builder.

Newcastle vs. Man City, Sun Dec 19, 9:00am (ET)
This bet feels like stealing. I don’t say that often when it comes to soccer or the Premier League (and it’s almost certainly going to come back and bite me in the ass), but I see very few scenarios where City doesn’t put up an ugly number on a Newcastle side with the worst defensive record in the League. Basically, a red card is the biggest risk and even then I’m not sure Newcastle hold up. So, for the team total on City to be -110 for over 2.5 feels like a damn good price considering Newcastle give up more than 2 goals per match to the AVERAGE team (34 goals in 16 games) and I’m going to be hammering this bet. City’s offense has had moments of sluggishness lately, but they showed in the midweek match just how clinical and dangerous they can be against a weak defense when they picked apart Leeds for 7 goals. Against a Newcastle side that are arguably worse on that end of the field, I find it hard to imagine that the City team wont find the back of the net 3 times, and I’d have put this line closer to -160 or -170. At -110, it feels like a heavy bet for me and I’ll gladly take a generous line from the books on this one.
