Can you pick the golfer with the most birdies on the weekend for your shot at $1M in bonus bets?

DraftKings Sportsbook has just unveiled a brand-new golf betting promo for this week’s Open Championship—and it’s a massive one.

Dubbed “King of the Course,” this limited-time offer gives fans a chance to win a share of $1,000,000 in bonus bets by picking the player who racks up the most birdies (or better) in the final two rounds at Royal Portrush.

This isn’t your typical outright bet. With the King of the Course promo, DraftKings adds a creative twist to the action at golf’s oldest major (and the final one of the year), putting them a step above the other sportsbook apps this week.

In case you missed it, Tom Kim took the crown during the last edition of this promo at Oakmont, firing five birdies on Saturday and four on Sunday to lead the weekend birdie count. As 76 users had placed their token on Kim, each cashed in with a bonus bet of $13,157.89. While ties can affect the final payout, it's clear: picking the King can pay huge.

To unlock this promo, you simply need to opt-in at DraftKings, where all new users can cash in a $150 bonus with a $5 bet, win or lose.

How to Cash In With “King of the Course” for The Open Championship

To take part in the DraftKings King of the Course promotion, users have to opt in to the promotion on the DraftKings Sportsbook app. Users will win a share of $1 million in bonus bets if they select the player with the most birdies or better in Round 3 and 4 combined.

Step 1: Opt-In to the Promotion

  • Log in to your DraftKings Sportsbook account and opt in to receive your King of the Course token. Once you’ve opted in, DraftKings will issue you a single-use Qualifying Bet Token, which you can apply to any pre-tournament outright winner bet for The Open.

Step 2: Place a Qualifying Bet on The Open

  • After opting in, use your token to place a minimum $5 outright winner bet on a golfer to win The Open Championship. This bet must be placed before the the third round begins on Saturday and must apply the Qualifying Token to the bet.

Step 3: Watch the Weekend, Cash In

  • If the golfer you picked ends up with the most birdies or better across Saturday and Sunday rounds, you’ll win an equal share of $1,000,000 in bonus bets.
  • Bonus bets are awarded within 24 hours
  • They expire 7 days after issuance
  • The payout is split evenly among all eligible players who selected the correct golfer with their token
  • Bonus bets are non-withdrawable

Important: Your bet doesn’t have to win the tournament—only the Saturday + Sunday birdie count matters for this promo.

Tips to Cash Your Winner on the “King of the Course” Promo

Want to boost your chances of picking the King? Here’s what to look for:

  • Target Birdie Machines – Look for golfers with high birdie averages, especially those who score aggressively on weekends.

  • Weather Watch – If Saturday or Sunday weather looks favorable (low wind, soft greens), look for players with late tee times and scoring upside.

  • Accurate Drivers – Royal Portrush demands precision. Target players who rank highly in driving accuracy and strokes gained off the tee, two key stats for this course.

  • Sleepers Welcome – With a minimum $5 bet, there’s room to sprinkle on longshots known for streaky weekend play. A surprise birdie blitz could be all it takes.

  • And Most Importantly - don't bet this before the second round ends. The last thing you want to do is bet on a golfer who misses the cut and doesn't take a single shot on the weekend.

The Open Championship Betting Preview

  • Course: Dunluce Links – Portrush, GBR
  • Dates: July 18–21, 2025
  • Purse: $17,000,000 | Par: 71 | Yards: 7,381

Winner Odds and Win Probabilities:

  • Scottie Scheffler: +500 (21.4%)
  • Rory McIlroy: +750 (5.4%)
  • Jon Rahm: +1200 (4.7%)
  • Bryson DeChambeau: +2200 (3.5%)
  • Tommy Fleetwood: +2800 (3.4%)

The Open Championship, commonly referred to as The Open, is golf’s oldest major, first contested in 1860. This year, the event returns to Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland, one of the most scenic and challenging venues in rotation.

The Open is notorious for tough coastal winds, links-style conditions, and unpredictable leaderboard swings—perfect for this birdie-focused promo where anyone can emerge as the King of the Course.
