College Basketball Best Bets for Tuesday, December 27

Jacksonville Dolphins vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish - 7:00PM ET

Jacksonville is not the type of team you want to return from a holiday break against, at least not if you play defense the way Notre Dame does. The Dolphins are the 149th ranked team on Kenpom and they have proven they can win on the road against good teams with a win at VCU. They guard the three point line well, holding opponents to 28.9% shooting from deep this season, and that's Notre Dame's biggest offensive strength.

The Irish are just 2-4 on the season against Kenpom top 150 opponents, and they aren't playing well right now. Notre Dame has lost five of it's last seven games, including losses at home to Syracuse and Marquette. Even when they win, they rarely win comfortably. In nine of 12 games this season, they have failed to cover eight points, including games against Radford, Youngstown State, Lipscomb, and Boston U.

Marquette Golden Eagles vs. Seton Hall Pirates - 8:00PM ET

Marquette is a team capable of winning big, especially at home. They beat Baylor by 26 points there, and Creighton by 11. All nine of their wins this year have come by double digits. They also are coming off a devastating 2OT loss to Providence. Without question, Marquette feels like they should have won that game, and after stewing on it over Christmas, we expect them to come out hungry for a statement win.

Seton Hall is the type of team that can get blown out. They lost by 16 points at home to Iowa, 13 points to Oklahoma and 26 points at Kansas. The Pirates are just 2-5 against Kenpom top 100 opponents this season, and haven't looked capable of hanging with a better team yet. Marquette is definitely the better team, and we expect them to pull away.

Texas Longhorns vs. Texas A&M Commerce Lions - 8:00PM ET

Despite all the drama with their head coach, Texas has put together a string of impressive performances lately. They are coming off a 28-point win against Louisiana (132 on Kenpom). The Longhorns have played three teams this season in the 300s or higher on Kenpom and won all three decisively,  by 51, 37 and 45 points.

A&M Commerce is one of the worst teams Texas has played this year. They have lost five straight games, and the last four came by double digits. In their most recent contest, the Lions lost by 10 to IUPUI, who is quite literally the lowest ranked team in all of college basketball on Kenpom.  A&M Commerce is playing like the worst team in the sport, and Texas has taken care of business in blowout fashion against every cupcake it has seen. We like the Longhorns.
