Andrew McCutchen has made a habit of tweeting about Anthrocon, the Furry convention, when it's in Pittsburgh for the weekend.

The Pirates are on the road this weekend, but do we still get the near-annual "Furries" tweet from Andrew McCutchen?

Every summer in Pittsburgh, two unlikely worlds collide: Pirates baseball and furries. And at the center of this annual intersection is Andrew McCutchen, who has turned Anthrocon weekend into a kind of performance art.

Since 2014, McCutchen has made it tradition to tweet a single word—“Furries”—whenever Anthrocon, one of the world’s largest furry conventions, takes place alongside a Pirates homestand. The tweet, now a fan-favorite meme, signals not just a celebration of the city’s eclectic culture, but seemingly, the beginning of a hot streak at the plate.

Why Does Andrew McCutchn Tweet "Furries?"

Only Andrew McCutchen himself knows the answer, but historically, he's tapped into something otherworldly once doing so.

McCutchen’s performance during Anthrocon weekends has become the stuff of legend. Prior to 2024, he owned a ridiculous .419 AVG, .479 SLG and .742 OPS slash line with four home runs across 82 plate appearances during these weekends—numbers far exceeding his career marks (.274/.369/.469).

But in 2024, the "furry magic" may have fizzled. In four games from July 3–7, McCutchen went just 2-for-15 with one extra-base hit and no RBIs. His slash line for the series: .133/.278/.200—well below his usual standard and a far cry from prior Anthrocon heroics.

Will Andrew McCutchen hit a Home Run during Anthrocon Weekend 2025?

Despite being off his game last year, the mythology remains intact.

From his 2014 home run immediately after tweeting “Furries,” to his iconic walk-off in 2015 with perhaps some of those same furries watching from across the river, McCutchen has turned a meme into a Pittsburgh baseball tradition. The results may vary, but the vibes are always immaculate when the furries come to town.

This year, the Pirates are in Seattle, so unfortunately, we're unlikely to get the McCutchen tweet, but just maybe he can summon some of the vibes on the road to make up for last year's soft outing.

As to whether or not he can do so, the answer lies in the Dimers Pro MLB Hitter Hub, with projections for every player in every game.

Here's how we project Andrew McCutchen in the first game of the Pirates-Mariners series:
